About Fundo de Quintal
Fundo de Quintal is a legendary Brazilian samba group created in Rio de Janeiro in the end of the 1970’s. The creation of the group happened when different musicians from the famous Cacique de Ramos Carnival block got together in a samba circle and decided to form a group. The name “Fundo de Quintal” (Backyard) represents its humble origins, they are considered the best samba group by many people because of their way of completely innovate the hole samba industry with new instruments and creating a more fun and joyful type of samba that was later on named pagode
The original lineup of Fundo de Quintal included Almir Guineto, Jorge Aragão, Sombrinha, Neoci, Sereno, Ubirany, and Bira Presidente, and because of their originality and the instruments they introduced not just a new sound was given to samba but they also helped many good singers to prosperate, singers that went in and left the group to follow their own careers like Zeca Pagodinho.
During the 80’s and 90’s they continued to release influential albums and solidified their place as one of Brazil's most important samba groups. Although their consistent quality changed a lot their objective of showing Brazilian people’s lives with joy, rhythm and passion kept the same.
Even after all the years, the group keeps active and beloved by many people, they still perform in shows and are always received by a vast number of people. Besides that, they left a legacy of change and prosperity to the samba/pagode style.

The group emerged around 1978 from the samba circles at the carnival festivity Cacique de Ramos in Rio de Janeiro and its first members were Almir Guineto, Bira Presidente, Jorge Aragão, Neoci, Sereno, Sombrinha, and Ubirany. Together they compose their first album “Samba é No Fundo de Quintal,” making the launch of their career.
Right after releasing heir first solo, Almir Aguineto and Jorge Aragão left to create their personal careers. The remaining artists had to improve and renovate the industry so they could be different from the other, for that, they created instruments like tan-tan, hand-repique and banjo tuned like a cavaquinho elements that helped them to create their new subgenre, the pagode.
To make new changes, they first had to follow the changes made by the industry, so they started recording live albums instead of studio albums. From there they released several live albums.
From the 2000’s onward, they kept releasing their albums and making performances until today. The group suffered changes and counts with new members to maintain their legacy.
